CareerCast.com has recently released their analysis of the best and worst jobs of 2013. A stripped-down listing (without all the detail) is also on the Wall Street Journal. In the words of Gob Bluth, I’ve made a huge mistake. With 1 being the best job and 200 being the worst job, economist is way down there at 120 (or 119 on WSJ, not sure what the discrepancy is about).
While economists do alright with an annual average income of $91,210 ($1 less than the number 1 job, actuary), hiring outlook is negative 2.9 (based on employment growth, income growth and unemployment). Apparently the work environment and stress level of being an economist isn’t so bad, with better ratings than many of the jobs listed higher. They don’t go too in-depth with their methodology, so it might be a bit heavily weighted toward hiring prospects. So instead of becoming a dental hygienist (number 6 on the list), I’ll just cross my fingers that someone somewhere will be looking to hire a lady economist such as myself in about a year. Got any leads?
